Salary: USD 190,000 - 215,000 / annual
Crusoe is building vertically integrated AI infrastructure solutions that power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. As a Senior Staff Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will independently lead end-to-end instrumentation and controls (I&C) vendor oversight for Crusoe's most complex, multi-system power generation programs. You will serve as the primary technical owner and Owner's Engineer from design through operational handoff, overseeing the entire project lifecycle including design, installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and initial operations support.
Your core responsibilities include providing high-level technical expertise and strategic direction for complex power generation plant control systems; overseeing systems integrator work and coordinating with electrical and mechanical engineering teams; managing installation oversight to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards; leading comprehensive testing and commissioning processes; providing operational support during initial phases; and developing training materials and operational procedures for operations staff. You will ensure strict compliance with safety standards and regulations, review and enforce fail-safe and redundancy design requirements, and drive continuous improvement by establishing Crusoe I&C standards across all projects.
Additionally, you will lead end-to-end vendor oversight for complex multi-system programs, coordinating multiple vendors' DCS design, SCADA implementation, power control system integration, and field instrumentation scope into coherent program architecture. You will independently resolve cross-vendor design conflicts, review vendor deliverables for engineering adequacy, maintain current knowledge of ISA standards, and develop well-reasoned technical solutions for complex I&C challenges. You will mentor junior I&C engineers, lead the creation of engineering design and commissioning standards for vendors, and stay current with the latest technologies in control systems and power generation.
This is a full-time position based in Denver, CO.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, or related field (required)
- 20+ years of professional experience in control systems, electrical power management systems, controls engineering, or closely related field
- Professional experience in a power systems environment with practical knowledge of power generation operations
- Experience with Power Plant DCS (Distributed Control Systems) or PLC-based Control Systems
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, PLCs, and industrial control systems
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Strong passion for leveraging data to continuously improve system performance
- Maintains awareness of evolving industry standards, particularly ISA standards (ISA-5.1, ISA-18.2)
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with equipment vendors and commissioning agents
- Professional Engineer (PE) license desired but not required
- Bonus: Relevant certifications such as PE or Certified Automation Professional (CAP); experience with SEL PowerMax, SEL RTAC, Ignition SCADA, Canary Historian, GE Mark VIE, Solar Rockwell PLC, Allen-Bradley PLCs, ComAp, ESM 2 Waukesha, or similar platforms
