CesiumAstro is seeking an experienced Principal GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) Engineer to join their spacecraft development team in Austin. You will lead the design, analysis, and implementation of GNC systems for next-generation satellites and aerospace communication platforms. This is a hands-on technical role where you will own GNC responsibilities across all lifecycle stages: design, integration, test, and operations.
Key responsibilities include conducting trade studies, leading design reviews, developing models, running simulations, and executing system testing. You will build, test, and validate both hardware and software components. Working on a small, collaborative engineering team, you will directly impact satellite development and launch operations. The company is preparing to launch eight Element satellites (the largest, most powerful rideshare satellites in LEO) over the next four years, with the first launch scheduled for this year.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including program management, systems engineering, and manufacturing to ensure successful builds and launches. The role emphasizes hands-on work in a dynamic startup environment where individual contributions directly drive company success. You will participate in iterative design cycles focused on reducing mass and cost while improving performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
