Amperesand is commercializing Solid State Transformer systems to modernize power infrastructure for data centers, EV charging, renewables, and industrial applications. The company is building intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products that are faster to deploy, smaller, and more efficient than traditional electrical equipment.
As Senior Staff Equipment Mechanical Design Engineer, you will architect and design custom automation equipment and manufacturing systems for high-power density, thermally constrained environments. This is a rare opportunity to influence equipment design from inception, embedding design for manufacturability (DFM), design for excellence (DFX), and design for assembly (DFA) principles early.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conceptualize and develop custom automation equipment, tooling, and fixtures using CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD)
- Conduct stress analysis, thermal analysis, and tolerance stack-ups to ensure robustness
- Design mechanical systems incorporating servo motors, actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, and robotics
- Collaborate with controls and electrical engineers to integrate PLC, HMI, sensors, and vision systems
- Optimize equipment for repeatability, precision, availability, and cycle time
- Lead prototyping efforts including vendor coordination, in-house fabrication, and testing
- Conduct design validation (DV) and process validation (PV) for new equipment
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting
- Contribute to product DFA to improve manufacturing cost and quality
You will serve as a critical interface between product development and industrialization, translating cutting-edge hardware concepts into production-ready systems for high-volume, high-reliability manufacturing. The role requires deep mechanical design expertise, strong cross-functional collaboration, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges in the energy infrastructure space.
