Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join the Autonomy Capabilities Team, which develops advanced autonomy software for single- and multi-agent platforms operating across air, sea, space, and other domains. The team operates across the full command-and-control hierarchy—from low-level control laws and motion planning through high-level tactical behaviors and multi-agent coordination—and serves multiple mission sets and platform types. In this role, you will solve complex technical problems spanning diverse programs and integration contexts. You'll develop solutions that blend traditional control system approaches with advanced optimization techniques, addressing real operational needs. Your work will span aircraft kinematics and dynamics, trajectory design, optimization algorithms, information fusion, and efficient computational methods, combined with strong software integration skills including architecture, protocols, threading, and interface management. You will be expected to balance rigorous theory with practical implementation, ensuring solutions integrate seamlessly into real-world platforms with near-term program impact. This is a technical leadership position where you'll influence consistent technical approaches across business portfolios and act as a discipline-aligned focal point for the autonomy function. Shield AI's Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation technologies actively support operations worldwide. The company is venture-backed with offices across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
