Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company developing autonomous systems and aircraft to protect service members and civilians. The company produces Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation technologies, with operations across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. In this role, you will drive the architecture, sub-system, and circuit design for next-generation aircraft and support equipment. You'll design complex system architectures utilizing custom circuitry including FPGAs, power management, analog/digital circuits, servos, microcontrollers, sensors, and radios. You will support the design and integration of embedded systems and sensors that enable aircraft autonomy and AI capabilities. Key responsibilities include: - Own circuit part selection, schematic capture, simulation, analysis, verification, debugging, and release to production - Lead and mentor teammates on the same project - Help define technical product requirements and features - Coordinate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, embedded, software, manufacturing, supply chain) - Manage project timelines and deliverables - Conduct and attend cross-functional design reviews - Work closely with firmware teams to integrate logic designs into build/release cycles - Help develop automated test solutions - Proactively identify and implement improvements within hardware development projects to enhance efficiency, quality, and aircraft reliability Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience - 8+ years of industry experience as an Electrical Engineer - Strong technical fundamentals - Demonstrated contribution to and leadership of multiple product design cycles involving electrical, mechanical, and software engineering - Track record of extreme ownership, hard work, and delivering outstanding outcomes - Proven success shipping products through full development cycles, overcoming obstacles, and delivering high-quality solutions on deadline in fast-paced environments - Ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement innovative solutions
