As a Senior Space Operations Engineer at Impulse, you will architect and execute spacecraft operations across the full mission lifecycle, from near-Earth payload deliveries to Mars surface landers. You'll design the plans, procedures, and toolsets that enable mission success and serve as a core member of the control room team executing complex space missions.
Key responsibilities include developing operational automation methods to reduce day-to-day operator workload; architecting the complete operational lifecycle from proposal and mission modeling through spacecraft integration, testing, shipment, launch, and on-orbit operations; defining ground and mission operations requirements and flowing them back to spacecraft design teams; developing mission concepts of operation and design reference missions; creating and executing operational procedures and mission-level engineering work; and collaborating with subsystem teams (GNC, flight software, avionics, propulsion) to align operations with spacecraft capabilities.
You will develop mission operations inputs for spacecraft fault detection, response, and autonomous behavior; support creation and execution of spacecraft simulator tests to validate mission and autonomy designs; execute in-factory flight vehicle tests to validate mission compatibility with hardware; and support design and operation of the ground segment including command and control, mission planning, data processing, and supporting infrastructure. The role emphasizes innovative problem-solving, technical resourcefulness, and strong project ownership in a small-team environment.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering or science; 5+ years' experience in testing or operational environments; 5+ years' experience with basic software scripting; demonstrated ability to take project ownership and work effectively in small teams.
