Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, and satellite buses. The company designs and operates all components in-house, from heat shields to processing payloads. As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer on the Flight Software team, you will develop reliable, safety-critical software that determines how Varda's spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules operate throughout their missions. You'll own the full software development lifecycle—from requirements capture and design through testing, integration, and flight operations support. Key responsibilities include: - Developing bare metal, RTOS, or Linux-based embedded software in C++ for spacecraft processors - Owning all aspects of software development from design to test and integration - Scoping projects, capturing requirements, and conducting design trades for open-ended problems - Ensuring system quality and performance through comprehensive verification and validation - Collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment You'll bring 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft or safety-critical software, a strong foundation in C++, and ideally hands-on experience with real-time embedded systems, aerospace safety standards, or spacecraft development. Experience with frameworks like F' or cFS, CCSDS telemetry systems, or protocols like SPI, I2C, and CAN is a plus. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or math (or equivalent technical background) is required. Varda is headquartered in El Segundo with additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL. The company was founded in 2021 by veterans from SpaceX and Blue Origin, backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund.
