Astranis is seeking a Senior Solutions Engineer to design and optimize satellite communications networks for commercial and US government customers. The role bridges technical and business functions, focusing on pre-sales engineering while supporting post-sales and internal development efforts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing satellite network solutions across the full lifecycle from pursuit through deal closure and beyond
- Conducting modeling and analysis of satellite networks using proprietary in-house software
- Optimizing high-throughput satellite (HTS) systems by trading dozens of parameters: payload configuration, orbital slot selection, spectrum planning, antenna systems, user terminals, networking equipment, gateway selection, and baseband systems
- Interfacing with Commercial, Government, Finance, Legal, Engineering, Operations, Regulatory, and Executive teams
- Presenting satellite network designs and technical reports to external customers and partners
- Supporting regulatory efforts (FCC, ITU) on spectrum use and coordination
- Influencing the design of analysis software tools
- Defining product-market fit for next-generation satellite communication systems
- Dimensioning ground solutions by collaborating with Earth Stations Engineering, Network Operations, and Hub teams
- Building Astranis's profile within the international business community
- Maintaining vendor and partner relationships (network hardware suppliers, hub vendors, terminal suppliers)
- Shaping future product offerings based on market trends, customer feedback, and industry insights
- Assisting with recruiting and hiring for the growing team
- Travel up to ~20% annually
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years in satellite communications industry with High Throughput Satellite (HTS) systems experience (LEO, MEO, or GEO)
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent
- Link budgeting and link analysis experience
- Regulatory affairs experience for space-based communications networks
- Satellite network hub management and operations experience
- Proven track record in strategic technical sales balancing customer needs with internal capabilities
- Scripting language proficiency (Python preferred, or MATLAB, R, Julia, C++)
- Must be onsite in San Francisco
Bonus experience includes cellular networks (3G/4G/LTE/5G), SD-WAN architecture, and military satellite communications systems.
