Flock Safety is seeking a Senior Software QA Engineer to lead quality assurance for its Drone as a First Responder program. This role bridges hardware and software testing for safety-critical mechatronic systems that support first responders in real-time decision-making.
You will own end-to-end QA strategy spanning airborne hardware, ground docks, and cloud backends. Key responsibilities include authoring and executing comprehensive test plans using test management platforms like Qase, building custom test scripts in Python and Bash, performing deep log-level debugging across microcontrollers and edge devices using Linux CLI tools, and developing Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop test suites to establish formal quality gates for fleet rollouts.
This is a hands-on role requiring systems engineering and QA experience on safety-critical mechatronic systems such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, UAVs, or aerospace platforms. You must demonstrate mastery of Linux environments, log-level debugging, and command-line interfaces across embedded and cloud infrastructure. Proficiency in Python or Bash for test automation, skill in structuring test plans and managing execution metrics, and technical familiarity with serial communications (CAN, UART), computer vision, edge computing, and live data streaming are essential.
Experience with aviation standards, FAA Part 107 certification, Gazebo simulation, or AWS is advantageous. The role is not theoretical—you will perform hands-on CLI debugging, analyze raw Linux logs, evaluate real-world aircraft operations, and constructively challenge architectural designs with data to establish formal testing gates for major hardware releases.
