Fudo is a rapidly growing restaurant management software startup serving thousands of restaurants across Latin America. The company provides management systems and mobile applications to help restaurant operators streamline operations including table management, inventory control, and financial management. Fudo is the market leader in Chile and Argentina with accelerating growth in Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. The Core Experience team is a multidisciplinary squad of IT, Product, and UX professionals building and maintaining features for waitstaff, bartenders, and restaurant managers. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will work with autonomy and responsibility while collaborating closely with the team. You'll be a technical reference point, elevating code quality standards and driving continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining Ruby-based backend services, optimizing database queries and caching strategies to handle high transaction volumes with low latency, implementing security best practices for sensitive data, writing automated unit and integration tests as part of CI/CD pipelines, mentoring team members and conducting code reviews, and implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting strategies using tools like OpenSearch, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and CloudWatch. The backend stack is primarily Ruby (non-Rails), with frontends in React and Angular, and mobile apps in Flutter. You should understand the full stack, with deep expertise in backend optimization, database indexing, HTTP caching headers, and asynchronous request handling. You'll need to know the differences between application servers (Unicorn vs. Puma) and data stores (Redis, Postgres, Mongo), and when to apply each. Minimum requirements: degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or in final years of study); 5+ years of backend development experience; solid knowledge of API design and development with familiarity with JSON:API, OpenAPI, and JSON Schema standards.
