Apple's Manufacturing and Product Operations organization seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple software engineering teams building next-generation intelligent manufacturing systems. This role oversees the development of software platforms, agentic workflows, data infrastructure, and AI-powered applications supporting complex global manufacturing operations. You will lead teams responsible for highly scalable, reliable, and secure systems connecting enterprise applications, manufacturing data, AI models, industrial equipment, and human decision-making. Key responsibilities include establishing cohesive technical strategy across teams, defining engineering roadmaps spanning manufacturing planning, execution, quality, automation, and operational decision-making. You will develop agentic workflows that retrieve and reason over manufacturing data, use enterprise and factory tools, execute multi-step processes, and appropriately involve human operators. The role requires deep engagement in architecture and design reviews, transitioning prototypes into production systems, and building orchestration, tool-calling, memory, and governance foundations for deploying AI agents safely in manufacturing environments. You will partner with machine learning teams to productionize models for computer vision, anomaly detection, forecasting, and process intelligence. The work spans cloud, on-premises, edge, and factory environments, requiring systems that meet demanding latency, availability, security, and data governance requirements. You will develop engineering managers and technical leads, establish software architectures connecting AI systems with manufacturing applications (ERP, MES, PLM, quality systems), and create reusable platform services and APIs. Responsibilities include designing systems bridging physical and embodied AI applications involving factory-floor vision, robotics, and automated inspection. You will establish evaluation frameworks for agentic systems, drive engineering excellence through design principles and code quality, manage cross-team dependencies, and communicate strategy to senior leadership. The ideal candidate has strong software engineering depth, architectural judgment, manufacturing awareness, and demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing engineering teams. Experience with distributed systems, AI/ML integration, and manufacturing operations is essential.
