Salary: USD 110,000 - 175,000 / annual
Tempus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale high-quality software systems for its precision medicine platform. The role focuses on developing AI-integrated applications and data pipelines that power next-generation health data abstraction, enabling physicians to access real-time, actionable insights for clinical decision-making.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining scalable web applications and backend services, planning and delivering features across the full stack, and writing clean, efficient, maintainable code that performs reliably at scale. You will contribute to software design and architecture decisions, improve code quality through code reviews and engineering best practices, and debug issues spanning multiple services. The role involves building and maintaining automated data flows using pipelines and scripts, writing comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, system), and manually testing code including edge cases and failure scenarios.
You will identify and address team-wide engineering challenges to elevate broader team capabilities and partner with cross-functional teams to improve products and resolve issues. This is an individual contributor role focused on technical excellence and system reliability.
Required qualifications include professional-level knowledge of Python, TypeScript, or Java, plus SQL; demonstrated experience in web application development; ability to build scalable, maintainable, high-performing software; experience contributing to software design and system architecture; strong debugging and problem-solving skills in distributed systems; experience writing automated tests across the stack; and commitment to code quality and engineering excellence.
Preferred qualifications include expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js; familiarity with AI-enhanced coding tools; experience building and automating data pipelines; and a track record of improving team practices and mentoring engineers.
