Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. With over 50 million users relying on Speechify's text-to-speech products to transform PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio, this role offers significant impact on a widely-used accessibility platform. You will own the full lifecycle of Windows platform features—from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. Key responsibilities include architecting native Windows applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; defining and enforcing best practices for code quality, performance, memory management, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+); and driving accessibility initiatives by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and ensuring screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, and usability for users with disabilities. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape the Windows product roadmap. You'll diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and compatibility issues, proposing robust architectural solutions. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions. Required qualifications: 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design and mentoring; and strong communication skills with a user-centric mindset. Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term. Speechify operates as a 100% distributed company with ~200 employees globally, including engineers from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Stanford PhD programs, and high-growth startups like Stripe and Vercel. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity.
