Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. With over 50 million users relying on Speechify's text-to-speech products to transform PDFs, books, Google Docs, and web content into audio, this role is critical to expanding accessibility and learning for a global audience. You will own the full lifecycle of Windows platform features—from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. Key responsibilities include architecting native Windows applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; defining and enforcing best practices for code quality, performance, memory management, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+); and driving accessibility initiatives by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and ensuring screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, and inclusive design. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape the Windows product roadmap. You'll diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and compatibility issues, proposing robust architectural solutions. Leadership is embedded in the role: you'll mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and make architecture-level decisions. Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; solid software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); and demonstrated ability to lead technical design and mentor peers. Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD and release pipeline expertise, and long-term ownership of feature areas with technical debt management. Speechy operates as a 100% distributed company with ~200 employees globally, including engineers from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Stanford PhD programs, and high-growth startups like Stripe and Vercel. You'll work in a flat-structure engineering culture where builders and decision-makers thrive.
