Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development. In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define best practices for Windows development across the codebase—covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. A key focus is driving accessibility: integrating and validating Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring proper keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. You'll take full ownership of feature lifecycles from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. You'll identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions. Required qualifications: 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML (plus ideally native Windows code experience with C++, Win32, WinRT, COM). Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code. Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, and maintainability. Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and commitment to inclusive software. Excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading). Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive, accessible experiences. Bonus experience: automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, long-term ownership of feature areas and technical debt management.
