Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. The role focuses on building high-quality, accessible text-to-speech reading products using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design and architecture of Windows desktop applications, defining best practices for code quality, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+).
- Drive accessibility efforts by integrating Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
- Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders on feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and long-term Windows platform roadmap.
- Own the full feature lifecycle: conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.
- Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and ideally native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and commitment to inclusive software design.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading.
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive, accessible experiences.
Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/internationalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and long-term ownership of feature areas.
