Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. The company has been recognized by Google (Chrome Extension of the Year) and Apple (2025 Design Award for Inclusivity). With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development.
In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define best practices for Windows development across the codebase, covering code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. A key focus is driving accessibility efforts—integrating and validating Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring proper focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
You'll collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning and the Windows platform roadmap. You'll take full ownership of feature lifecycles from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. You'll identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, and conducting code reviews; strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; user-centric mindset.
Preferred: automated UI testing experience, performance optimization expertise, localization/globalization experience, familiarity with telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD and release pipeline knowledge, demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
