Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development.
In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices across the Windows codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory management, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
A key focus area is accessibility: you'll integrate and validate support for Microsoft UI Automation and other Windows accessibility frameworks, ensuring proper keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, focus management, and usability for users with disabilities—aligning with Speechify's mission to remove barriers to learning.
You'll take full ownership of the feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape the Windows platform roadmap. You'll also diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, and conducting code reviews; strong communication skills; and a user-centric mindset.
Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD and release pipeline expertise, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
