Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development.
You will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. Key responsibilities include defining best practices for Windows development (code architecture, performance, memory management, cross-version compatibility), driving accessibility initiatives (UI Automation, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support), and collaborating with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to shape the Windows platform roadmap.
You'll take full ownership of feature lifecycles from conception through maintenance, diagnose and resolve complex bugs and performance bottlenecks, and mentor other engineers on technical design and code quality. The role emphasizes a user-centric mindset, building polished and accessible experiences, and making architecture-level decisions.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of Windows desktop development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers; strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred: automated UI testing experience, performance optimization expertise, localization/globalization knowledge, familiarity with telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD and release pipeline experience, demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
