Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building accessibility-first reading technology. You will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. Your responsibilities include: • Design and architect Windows desktop applications with a focus on performance, memory efficiency, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+) • Define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase • Drive accessibility initiatives by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and other Windows accessibility frameworks, ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities • Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and long-term Windows platform roadmap • Own the full feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance • Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals; experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers; and strong cross-functional communication skills. Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and long-term ownership of feature areas.
