Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development. In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices across the Windows codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. A key focus is driving accessibility efforts—integrating and validating support for Microsoft UI Automation and other Windows accessibility frameworks, ensuring proper keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. You'll take full ownership of the feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. You'll identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions. Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML, plus ideally native Windows code experience (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM). You need deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code. You should have a proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs is essential, along with solid software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading). Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions is required. Excellent communication skills and a user-centric mindset round out the profile. Bonus qualifications include automated UI testing experience, performance optimization expertise, localization/globalization knowledge, familiarity with telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD and release pipeline experience, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
