Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building accessible reading technology. In this role, you will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase, focusing on code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. Key responsibilities include driving accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring proper UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader support. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. You'll own the full lifecycle of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance, ensuring quality and consistency across releases. You'll also identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions. Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML, with ideally additional native Windows code experience (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM). You need deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed and native code, and a proven track record of designing and shipping production-quality desktop applications. Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and dedication to building inclusive software is essential. You should have excellent software engineering fundamentals, experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers, and strong communication skills with a user-centric mindset. Preferred qualifications include experience with automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and analytics, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
