Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees across a fully distributed, office-free organization, Speechify is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead Windows desktop application development.
In this role, you will own the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices for Windows development across the codebase, covering code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
A key focus is accessibility: you'll integrate and validate support for Microsoft UI Automation and other Windows accessibility frameworks, ensuring UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long-term Windows platform roadmap.
You'll take full ownership of feature lifecycles from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. You'll identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals; experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers; and strong communication skills with a user-centric mindset.
Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and analytics, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
