Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. With over 50 million users relying on Speechify's text-to-speech products to transform PDFs, books, Google Docs, and web content into audio, this role offers significant impact on a widely-used accessibility platform.
You will own the full lifecycle of Windows features—from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. Key responsibilities include architecting native Windows applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; defining and enforcing best practices for performance, memory usage, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+); and driving accessibility efforts by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and ensuring screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, and usability for users with disabilities.
You'll collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and the long-term Windows platform roadmap. You'll diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and compatibility issues, proposing robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, and conducting code reviews; strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; and a user-centric mindset.
Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ownership of feature areas long-term.
