Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. With over 50 million users relying on Speechify's text-to-speech products, this role offers high-impact work shaping the future of the Windows platform.
You will own the full lifecycle of features—from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead design and architecture of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows development: code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability
• Drive accessibility efforts by integrating and validating support for accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and long-term roadmap
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems
• Mentor other engineers, conduct code reviews, and make architecture-level decisions
Required qualifications:
• 3+ years of Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and ideally native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM)
• Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed (.NET) and native code
• Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications with emphasis on reliability, performance, and maintainability
• Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and dedication to building inclusive software
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading
• Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, and making architecture decisions
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive experiences
Preferred experience includes UI testing automation, performance optimization, localization/internationalization, telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD workflows for desktop apps, and long-term ownership of feature areas.
