Speechify is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications. The role focuses on building high-quality, accessible text-to-speech reading products using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design and architecture of Windows desktop applications, establishing best practices for code quality, performance, memory management, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+)
- Drive accessibility initiatives by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and related frameworks, ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and inclusive design
- Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to shape feature planning and long-term Windows platform roadmap
- Own the full feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and compatibility issues with architectural solutions
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and ideally native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM)
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and managed/native code interop
- Proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and commitment to inclusive software
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, code review, and architecture decisions
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive experiences
Bonus experience includes UI testing automation, performance optimization, localization/internationalization, telemetry/analytics, CI/CD workflows for desktop apps, and long-term feature ownership.
