Salary: CAD 144,000 - 176,000 / annual
Relay is a digital banking platform designed for self-made business owners, providing tools and visibility to manage cash flow and build resilient businesses. The company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Voyager team, which serves as the innovation center and technology foundation for AI and emerging capabilities across the product.
In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of secure, reusable LLM systems that enable differentiated product experiences—from design through deployment and monitoring. You'll lead exploratory R&D initiatives to evaluate emerging technologies and provide clear recommendations on adoption. A key responsibility is enabling other engineering teams through tooling, patterns, and guidance so they can ship AI workflows quickly and safely.
You'll work as a consultative partner with product teams, serving as the AI expert who helps teams make sound technical decisions rather than building everything yourself. You'll proactively identify opportunities for technical, process, and product improvement, influencing the team's technical direction and long-term strategy.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience and can move fluidly between exploratory spikes and production-hardened systems. You have strong judgment about emerging technology, mentor junior engineers, and drive enhancements to code quality and performance. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, take end-to-end ownership, and keep customer and business impact in mind.
Bonus qualifications include startup or high-growth tech experience, hands-on LLM work (self-hosting, open models, retrieval systems, agentic workflows), platform/shared services experience, JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency, and AWS knowledge (ECS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda).
Relay's tech stack includes React and TypeScript on the front-end, Node.js and TypeScript on the back-end, Terraform for infrastructure, and AWS services. The team uses Cursor, Claude, GitHub, Datadog, and Metabase.
