Veriff is an AI-powered identity verification platform that uses advanced image recognition, facial verification, liveness detection, and behavior analysis to help organizations safely onboard users globally. The Trust team builds and operates backend services that validate identity data against country-specific authoritative sources—government registries, national databases, AML and sanctions screening—turning a patchwork of different upstream data sources into a single, dependable trust signal. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Trust team, you will design, build, and operate critical backend services that integrate with external identity data sources and implement validation logic. Your work directly determines how many countries Veriff can cover, how quickly new countries can be launched, and how reliably partners can depend on verification results. Key responsibilities include: designing and maintaining backend services with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability; expanding global coverage by onboarding new countries and data sources while building abstractions that reduce integration costs; modeling inconsistent upstream data into consistent verification results; ensuring system resilience through timeouts, retries, idempotency, circuit breaking, and graceful degradation; handling sensitive personal data responsibly with regional compliance requirements; participating in on-call rotations and incident response; and driving engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, and mentoring. You bring 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend applications in Python, including event-driven and async architectures with message queues. You have hands-on experience integrating third-party APIs at scale and understand production-critical service ownership. You excel at designing for resilience in distributed systems, have strong data modeling instincts, and understand modular design and SOLID principles. You build scalable, maintainable APIs, employ robust testing strategies, understand relational databases, and practice structured logging and observability. Strong communication skills are essential—you articulate technical ideas clearly to engineers and non-engineers, and work comfortably with Product, Compliance, and external partners. Nice-to-have skills include experience with identity verification, KYC/AML, financial services, government/registry integrations, data privacy and regulatory constraints (GDPR, regional data residency), event-driven systems, workflow orchestration engines, or Kubernetes.
