Okta is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Cloud Tooling and Pipelines team, a pivotal group responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the core Continuous Delivery (CD) platform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) execution engines (primarily Terraform), and supporting microservices. These systems are critical for managing Okta's extensive resource footprint across AWS ECS and EKS.
In this role, you will drive the implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions that automate infrastructure provisioning and application deployments. Your deep expertise in software engineering principles and cloud-native development will be essential in building and enhancing critical tooling for infrastructure provisioning, vulnerability management, and IaC deployments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop core platform components, including scalable microservices and tools for the CD platform (Spinnaker, Terraform, custom tooling)
- Build sophisticated Infrastructure as Code automation solutions and APIs that empower engineering teams to provision and manage infrastructure with high reliability
- Architect and implement robust CD pipelines and Terraform-based IaC workflows, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security
- Write clean, efficient, well-tested code primarily in Java, Python, or Go for microservices focused on automation and operational excellence
- Collaborate with DevOps, SREs, and Product teams to identify operational bottlenecks and lead software development efforts to create scalable automation solutions
- Champion software engineering best practices in design, development, testing, and deployment
- Apply and promote security best practices throughout the software development lifecycle
- Identify opportunities to build self-service automation for infrastructure provisioning and application deployments
- Serve as a technical mentor and role model for other engineers, fostering collaboration and technical excellence
Required qualifications include 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on backend systems and distributed applications, and 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Go, Python, or similar backend languages building scalable and reliable applications.
