IonQ is a quantum computing platform company (NYSE: IONQ) building integrated quantum solutions for computing, networking, sensing, and security. The company operates quantum computers including the IonQ Tempo, serving customers like AWS and AstraZeneca in drug discovery, materials science, financial modeling, and cybersecurity. You will join the Release Engineering team as a Senior Software Engineer focused on test infrastructure. Your primary responsibility is owning the quality signal for integrated software running IonQ's quantum computers. You'll design and operate automated testing that validates complete systems—from customer-scale circuit execution to operator tooling—on shared test environments that are themselves real quantum computing systems. Key responsibilities include: - Own end-to-end integration testing of system software: design, develop, and maintain automated test suites validating complete quantum computing systems on shared test environments, including circuit execution under realistic customer workloads. - Extend automated test coverage of operator-facing tooling and workflows, exercising interfaces used by engineers and physicists to operate and calibrate systems. - Design, build, and operate CI infrastructure that catches integration bugs before deployment, partnering with software development teams while maintaining speed, reliability, and trust. - Define and evolve system-level test strategy: identify coverage gaps beyond functional job execution and build tests and instrumentation to close them, including performance characterization and electronics-control validation. You'll work cross-functionally with software, hardware, and physics teams daily. The ideal candidate is curious and collaborative, drawn to hardware-software integration testing, thinks in terms of coverage and infrastructure rather than individual test cases, and is comfortable defining test signals for first-of-their-kind systems. The role is based in College Park, MD; Bothell, WA; or Boulder, CO with a hybrid work model allowing remote work a few days per week. Travel up to 10% (domestic or international) is expected.
