Vanta is a Series D security and compliance platform that helps businesses continuously monitor and prove their security posture. The Test Core team builds the runtime platform powering Vanta's security checks, which process tens of millions of API calls daily and run continuous tests against customer data to identify threats.
As a Senior Software Engineer on Test Core, you will own complex projects across the full lifecycle—from problem definition and technical design through implementation, rollout, and production operation. You'll design and evolve backend systems, APIs, and data models that execute tests and process results at scale. Key responsibilities include improving reliability, correctness, performance, and observability of the test runtime; investigating and resolving complex production issues; simplifying existing systems and improving abstractions for other engineering teams; and mentoring junior engineers.
You'll work on problems spanning multiple systems and teams, requiring deep understanding of platform behavior in production. You'll collaborate across Vanta's engineering organization, provide thoughtful code and design review feedback, and help shape the technical direction of your team.
Success requires strong experience building and operating reliable, scalable backend systems in production. You should have independently delivered complex technical projects where the problem or solution wasn't well-defined, with strong systems thinking and fundamentals in backend design, APIs, and data modeling. You're a strong debugger who reasons about correctness, reliability, performance, and scalability across complex systems. Experience with TypeScript, GraphQL, MongoDB, and observability tools like Datadog is valued. The role emphasizes taking ownership of production systems, making effective technical tradeoffs, and communicating decisions clearly across teams. Openness to using AI to amplify skills and improve efficiency is encouraged.
