Salary: USD 196,000 - 227,000 / annual
Airbnb's Client and Identity Engineering team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain robust, scalable, and secure systems that underpin the Zero Trust ecosystem. This role is critical to Airbnb's infrastructure, as the systems you'll work on have higher reliability and security requirements than most backend services. Downtime directly impacts Airbnb employees and partners' ability to access the platform.
You will work on establishing user identity and endpoint security infrastructure in Airbnb's corporate environment, collaborating closely with security engineering teams to design new features and evolve platforms to meet evolving business needs. Your responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining the next-generation client platform for all Airbnb corporate endpoints using open source products
- Developing and enhancing the zero trust backend suite, supporting security services, network paths, and user and device signaling
- Supporting executive-level Airbnb staff with endpoint and identity solutions
- Optimizing endpoints and identity flows in collaboration with product and engineering teams
- Leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree (or Master's/PhD) in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in test-driven software development
- Extensive experience with Go, Python, or Java (Go strongly preferred)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code deployments
- Experience developing and deploying services in Kubernetes environments
- Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers
- Motivation for personal growth and learning new technologies
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Microservices architecture experience
- Familiarity with Apple MDM specification and modern MDM deployments
- Understanding of authentication and authorization principles (OAuth 2.0, OpenID, SAML, ABAC, Zero Trust security protocols)
