ICEYE is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to own the backend systems powering Tactical Access, the company's customer-facing satellite tasking platform. You will design and operate services and data models that enable customers to plan and manage satellite tasking through both API and web interfaces, making direct decisions about API design and reliability that customers depend on.
ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations using world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology. The company operates the world's largest SAR satellite constellation and serves defense, intelligence, security, maritime domain awareness, civil protection, and commercial users globally.
Key responsibilities include owning end-to-end delivery of significant backend capabilities from API design through production operation; reducing production risk through improved observability (metrics, traces, alerting) and root-cause analysis; shipping API changes that account for customer impact with no unplanned breaking changes; collaborating with product managers and customers to translate business needs into technical tradeoffs; and raising the engineering bar through code review and architecture discussions.
Required experience: production backend engineering in Go (or comparable typed language) building and operating APIs; API design and lifecycle ownership including versioning and backwards compatibility; AWS and container/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform); PostgreSQL and NATS; observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry); strong testing, documentation, and code review practices; security and quality best practices in production customer-facing systems; AI-assisted engineering tools (Cursor, Devin); and familiarity with OAuth/OpenID Connect/JWT and geospatial data (PostGIS, GeoJSON).
The role reports to the Engineering Lead of the Tactical Access squad and is based in Espoo, Finland with hybrid work (3 days per week in office). Employment is subject to applicable security screening. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to make visible impact in a dynamic defense technology and Earth Observation environment with a scale-up approach.
