Salary: USD 155,000 - 400,000 / annual
Sentry is an application monitoring platform trusted by 200,000+ organizations. The Streaming Platform team is building next-generation infrastructure for ingestion pipelines and real-time data processing systems that handle hundreds of thousands of events per second with low latency and high reliability.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate core components of the streaming platform including Kafka integration, streaming runtime, high-level APIs, and developer-facing abstractions. You'll implement resilient, high-throughput stream processing systems that handle unbounded datasets with strong correctness guarantees around delivery, checkpointing, and watermarking. You'll build scalable automation and control planes for Kafka fleet management, partner with product engineers to ensure abstractions enable fast and reliable ingestion pipelines, and improve observability, monitoring, and failover for mission-critical real-time systems.
This is ideal if you enjoy working on distributed systems at scale, care deeply about reliability and performance, and like building abstractions that simplify complex infrastructure for other engineers. You should be motivated by designing systems that balance developer flexibility with stability best practices, and excited to shape how Sentry handles near real-time ingestion and analytics at scale.
Required: 5+ years of software engineering experience with background in distributed systems, data infrastructure, or real-time streaming. Proficiency in Python, Rust, Go, or Java (Sentry primarily uses Python and Rust). Experience with Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, or similar streaming technologies. Strong understanding of partitioning, watermarks, windowing, stateful/stateless processing, and delivery guarantees. Experience building and operating systems in cloud environments (Kubernetes, AWS, GCP). Nice to have: ClickHouse, Arrow, columnar data processing, or modern streaming SQL engines like Materialize or RisingWave.
