Robinhood's Streaming Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and operate distributed systems that power real-time data streaming across the company's products and infrastructure. The role focuses on building foundational platforms for communication between services and enabling streaming analytics at scale.
You will design and operate distributed data streaming platforms handling billions of events per day, develop secure and highly reliable systems using technologies like Kafka, Flink, and Debezium, and collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, data, and ML teams to ensure the platform supports diverse use cases. Key responsibilities include building tools and documentation to enhance the developer experience for internal teams, mentoring other engineers on architectural decisions, and driving long-term technical strategy.
The team has recently tackled significant challenges including Robinhood's migration from EC2 to Kubernetes for Kafka infrastructure, implementation of WarpStream for logging, and development of a Kafka Proxy to decouple consumer logic from applications. These projects demonstrate the scale and complexity of the systems you'll work with.
This is a hybrid role based in Bellevue, WA, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week. Robinhood emphasizes the value of in-person collaboration for innovation and team building.
You should bring 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on work building distributed systems at scale. Expertise with Kafka, Flink, and Debezium is expected, along with strong proficiency in designing event-driven architectures and stream processing systems. A passion for platform engineering and creating excellent developer experiences is essential, as is the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across technical teams.
