Salary: USD 200,000 - 240,000 / annual
Skydio is the leading US autonomous drone company, serving defense, public safety, and enterprise customers. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Streaming team, you'll design and maintain the real-time infrastructure powering some of the world's most advanced autonomous drones. You'll build world-class video streaming and telemetry services that enable mission-critical operations across millions of flights annually.
You'll work on massively concurrent, low-latency distributed systems processing terabytes of data daily, tackling complex performance and scalability challenges with direct real-world impact. Your responsibilities include optimizing performance over constrained network connections, advancing industry-leading technologies like Skydio Connect Fusion, and shaping the evolution of Skydio's real-time frameworks to empower engineering teams across the company.
Key qualifications: 5+ years building and running complex distributed systems; hands-on experience with distributed messaging systems (Apache Pulsar, Kafka); proven track record implementing continuous deployment for stateful systems; strong problem-solving across connectivity, backend services, and infrastructure.
Nice-to-have skills include experience with real-time media delivery infrastructure (Livekit, MediaMTX), streaming protocols (WebRTC, QUIC, HLS), low-level video protocols and codecs (H264, H265, RTP), and Go programming.
This is a full-time position offering competitive base salary ($200K–$240K annually), equity in the form of stock options, comprehensive health insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and 401(k) matching. Relocation assistance may be available. FAA Part 107 certification is strongly encouraged within 60 days and required for certain positions.
