Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Software Platform team. This team builds and operates the foundational infrastructure—CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Terraform, Bazel, AWS, IAM, and data infrastructure—that enables Muon's internal tooling and production systems, including the customer-facing Muon Mission Command platform. The Software Platform team is critical to Muon's engineering organization's growth. As product teams, services, and customers expand, this team's leverage—through reduced cognitive load, eliminated toil, and self-service Golden Paths—directly determines how fast the broader engineering organization can move. Key responsibilities include designing and building high-performance, scalable, and resilient systems; working across the stack and cross-functionally to deliver end-to-end platform capabilities; contributing to architectural decisions that shape core systems; identifying and resolving bottlenecks and performance issues in production; partnering with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions; participating in code reviews and technical design discussions; and taking ownership of features from concept through deployment and ongoing operation. Required qualifications: BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience); 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python, C++, or Rust in production environments; hands-on experience with distributed systems, backend services, or platform development, including Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS; demonstrated experience building and operating mission-critical services with uptime, reliability, and performance requirements; knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure (containers, service orchestration, observability); strong debugging, profiling, and code optimization skills; and experience mentoring junior engineers or leading medium to large technical initiatives. Nice-to-have skills include comfort in highly interdisciplinary environments, familiarity with real-time data processing pipelines or high-throughput systems, experience with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, and contributions to open-source projects or technical writing. The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA. Muon offers competitive total compensation including equity, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k, disability and life insurance, three weeks paid vacation for new employees, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
