Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Simulation team in San Jose. This hybrid role (3 days/week on-site) focuses on building and maintaining simulation infrastructure that serves cross-functional stakeholders including business development, mission design, operations, and flight/ground software engineering teams. You will be a major technical contributor responsible for designing and implementing reliable web services and high-performance compute systems. Key responsibilities include building in-house simulation services, breaking down complex technical goals into detailed proposals, collaborating with physical-modeling experts to integrate simulation models into complete products, and iterating on simulation tools based on feedback from client teams. You will expand test coverage by developing novel off-nominal test scenarios, work with the Software Test team to integrate simulation tools into automated testing campaigns, and mentor junior engineers on the Simulation and Test teams. The role requires strong technical leadership: you will lead by example with reliable estimation and planning, ensure team alignment with company goals, and drive architectural best practices across the Simulation tools. This is an individual contributor role with mentoring responsibilities, not a people-management position. Required qualifications include 8+ years of software engineering experience in a team environment, strong proficiency in Python and C++, a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent, and proven ability to collaborate with specialized experts on complex cross-functional products. Nice-to-have skills include experience with numerical simulation techniques, statistical analysis, Julia, Linux/Docker, Kubernetes, Software-in-the-Loop simulation, CI/CD/DevOps, and orbital satellite operations familiarity. Muon Space designs, builds, and operates LEO satellite constellations delivering mission-critical Earth Intelligence data for climate monitoring and national security applications. The company offers competitive total compensation including equity grants, comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, disability, life insurance), three weeks paid vacation, 12 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, and paid parental leave.
