Salary: USD 158,000 - 237,000 / annual
Rubrik is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its SaaS Data Protection team, focusing on building next-generation backup and recovery solutions for SaaS applications like Microsoft Office 365 and Salesforce. This role tackles distributed systems challenges at massive scale—protecting data for millions of users' emails, documents, and workloads across on-premises and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Key responsibilities include designing and building large-scale, fault-tolerant distributed software systems (35% of time); owning the design and development of Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solutions; implementing data management jobs for backup and recovery of virtual machines using Scala/Java; designing admin-facing UIs and APIs that integrate with third-party and customer applications; and performing code reviews focused on interface design, code quality, and testing strategies.
You'll spend 25% of time solving challenging scalability and stability problems impacting high-scale products, analyzing defects, and working with customers and product teams to understand requirements. Another 20% involves responding to critical issues in SaaS product offerings, resolving build and test infrastructure problems, and creating solutions with robust monitoring and automation. The remaining 20% is dedicated to partnering closely with product teams to understand customer requirements and ensure effective feature delivery.
The role involves leading projects and mentoring junior engineers, collaborating across Product Management, UI, Documentation, and Support teams. You'll be at the forefront of Rubrik's expansion into SaaS protection, a critical growth engine as enterprises increasingly adopt cloud-based applications.
Minimum qualifications: 3+ years building large-scale distributed systems; deep understanding of distributed and cloud architecture; BS in Computer Science or equivalent; strong code review and testing practices; proven experience with data structures, software design, and systems analysis. Preferred: proficiency in Go, Scala, or Python; experience with Bazel, Git, and GitHub; experience establishing and maintaining automated build systems.
