Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms founded in 2011, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Rust to join its Platform and Core Engineering teams. The company serves over 10 million individuals and institutions globally, offering spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services.
The Platform and Core Engineering teams build the foundational systems that make Kraken secure, resilient, and scalable. Rather than customer-facing features, impact is measured by the strength, correctness, and leverage of the infrastructure created. These teams power critical systems behind the scenes, enabling product teams to move fast while maintaining the highest standards for reliability, compliance, and security in a regulated, security-sensitive environment.
In this role, you will design and implement robust Rust services and foundational libraries that power Kraken's core infrastructure, prioritizing correctness, security, and long-term maintainability. You'll write reusable, testable, and highly efficient code built for scale, observability, and operational resilience in production environments. You'll collaborate on large-scale distributed systems architecture, shaping low-latency, fault-tolerant services that support global trading and internal platforms. You'll work alongside hundreds of experienced Rust engineers in a high-bar engineering culture grounded in ownership, rigor, and craftsmanship.
Key responsibilities include designing shared services and internal platforms, optimizing for safety, scalability, observability, auditability, and operational excellence. You'll take complete end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries, collaborating effectively with product teams to gather requirements and constraints.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience building and scaling shared systems, internal platforms, and supporting multiple product roadmaps
- Proficient in writing network services or asynchronous code in Rust
- Security-first mindset during system design to ensure robustness
- Ability to autonomously debug issues across the stack (OS, network, application)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and technologies, including RPC protocols, Kafka, and Event-Driven Systems
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product teams to gather requirements and constraints
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of systems and libraries
