Via is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the routing team and help design, build, and scale the systems powering their transportation platform. You will work on high-impact projects combining cutting-edge technology, complex distributed systems, and challenging algorithmic problems in transportation, routing, and navigation.
Key responsibilities include architecting and building robust, high-performance systems from design through production deployment; owning features end-to-end with strong accountability; developing features and APIs for concurrent applications in Golang; implementing and improving geometric and graph algorithms for core product functionality; maintaining Python and Java server applications; writing production-grade, efficient, and maintainable code; optimizing application performance, uptime, and scalability; and running benchmarks and analysis scripts for geographical data.
Required qualifications: BSc in Computer Science or equivalent; 4+ years of hands-on software development experience with one or more programming languages (Python, Go, Java, etc.); strong grasp of core software engineering principles including data structures, multithreading, OOP, and design patterns; proven experience building and scaling highly available, distributed, large-scale systems; solid understanding of system design, distributed systems, and software architecture; ability to learn quickly and absorb new technologies; excitement about solving algorithmic challenges in transportation and routing; collaborative team player with excellent communication skills; strong ownership and ability to drive projects from concept to completion; pragmatic problem-solver who breaks down complex problems into clear, manageable pieces.
