You will serve as a senior software engineer on the Ruby on Rails team, providing technical leadership and architectural guidance. Your responsibilities include establishing engineering best practices and code standards, building and maintaining high-quality web applications with comprehensive test coverage, and delivering complete features in short development cycles. You'll work across both frontend and backend, breaking down complex technical requirements into deliverable solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance in collaboration with leadership
- Build and maintain stable, well-tested web applications with strong test coverage
- Deliver features in rapid cycles, writing effective frontend and backend code
- Partner with designers, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Instrument features with metrics to enable data-driven decisions
- Ensure quality through rigorous testing, code review, and deployment practices
- Monitor application performance and address scalability concerns
- Contribute to incident response and system reliability
Required qualifications:
- 7+ years professional software development experience, significant time in web applications
- 3+ years hands-on Ruby on Rails in production environments
- Strong understanding of relational databases (query optimization, indexing, schema design)
- Working knowledge of Sidekiq or similar background job processing frameworks
- Solid grasp of testing methodologies and frameworks
- Experience with AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar)
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Bonus qualifications include experience with active-admin, Hotwire, Stimulus, Computer Science degree, and proven track record in high-performing agile environments.
