ARX Robotics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build the core software architecture for their autonomous unmanned ground vehicle platform. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing the foundational systems that enable robust communication, high performance, and seamless integration across a fleet of teleoperated and autonomous robots.
You will architect modular, scalable software that serves as the runtime platform for the robotics fleet, focusing on real-time performance in mission-critical scenarios. Key responsibilities include designing distributed system communication protocols (TCP/IP), establishing best practices and design patterns for other engineering teams, optimizing multithreaded and performance-critical systems, and mentoring engineers in architectural principles and software craftsmanship.
The ideal candidate brings proven experience in low-level software engineering with deep expertise in C++ and Python, preferably from regulated industries like defense, automotive, or aerospace. You should have hands-on experience building and debugging real-time systems, strong knowledge of embedded Linux or QNX environments, and proficiency with system-level APIs (IPC, sockets, I/O) and communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet). Experience with parallel and distributed systems, system profiling, and familiarity with tools like Bazel, zero-copy middleware, or lock-free programming are strong advantages.
