Otter is a software platform that helps restaurants succeed in online food delivery. The company serves major brands like Chick-fil-A, Ben & Jerry's, KFC, and Eataly, providing tools to increase sales, reduce order issues, and streamline delivery operations.
You will own and evolve Revenue Recapture, Otter's highest revenue-producing product. This automated tool helps restaurants recover funds lost to third-party delivery platform errors, unwarranted refunds, and chargebacks. Your core responsibilities include:
- Design and build end-to-end automation to improve dispute effectiveness and move toward a fully automated "no humans in the loop" process, spanning data ingestion, decisioning, filing, tracking, and resolution.
- Develop scalable, reliable backend services in Java and build intuitive front-end experiences that surface dispute status, outcomes, and insights.
- Increase automation and win rates through experimentation; define and track success metrics.
- Ensure reliability and quality via sound architecture, automated testing, observability, and a focus on high service uptime and resilience.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, Operations, and Support to incorporate customer feedback and drive product and engineering improvements.
You should be a customer-obsessed engineer who demonstrates radical ownership from design through long-term support. You excel at context-switching, handling ambiguity, and delivering in fast-moving environments with evolving priorities. Strong backend experience in Java building reliable, distributed systems and integrations is essential, with the ability to work across the stack including front-end development. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, write strong design docs, and are independent and self-directed. You're passionate about high-quality code, robustness, automation, and industry-leading service uptime.
The role is based in the Seattle office with a five-day-per-week onsite requirement. The online food delivery market in the US has expanded 10X in five years (from $10B to $100B) and is projected to reach $500B–$1T by 2030, offering significant growth opportunity.
