ID.me is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Reporting & Billing team. The team builds the definitive record for member identity verification journeys—tracking every workflow, decision, step, and outcome as users prove their identity. With over 152 million members verifying across federal agencies, state governments, healthcare organizations, and consumer brands, the team manages a massive scale of identity workflows. In this role, you will own critical systems spanning product-facing data platforms and revenue-critical financial infrastructure. Key responsibilities include: **Build the Transactions Data Model**: Design and implement the customer-facing data model that tracks user activity across all verification workflows, capturing documents inspected, faces matched, consent granted, and outcomes across single or multiple attempts. **Build Customer Data Delivery**: Design and build the mechanisms customers use to access their reporting data through the Developer Portal—query APIs, scheduled and on-demand exports, webhooks, and event streams. You will own the API contracts, delivery SLAs, versioning, backwards compatibility, and deprecation strategies that customers and their integrations depend on. **Develop Billing Automation**: Implement the metering and billing architecture that transforms events into accurate, auditable charges. This is a rare opportunity to design revenue-critical financial systems from the ground up. **Reliability, Correctness & Compliance**: Own the availability and correctness of reporting data writes, reads, and billing runs at production scale. Lead work on observability, data quality monitoring, reconciliation tooling, query performance, and incident response. Ensure systems meet security, privacy, and audit requirements of a NIST 800-63-3 AAL2/IAL2 credential service provider. **AI-Augmented Development**: Model and champion AI-first engineering practices using tools like Claude Code and Cursor to accelerate design, implementation, and review cycles, helping the broader team adopt these workflows. The role requires 6+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production web applications, 3+ years building developer-facing platforms (developer portals, API platforms, authentication, cloud platforms, payments), and 3+ years with TypeScript, React, and modern frontend technologies. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience required. Position is in-office five days per week at the McLean, VA office.
