Salary: USD 160,000 - 185,000 / annual
Infleqtion is commercializing atom-based quantum technologies for sensing and computing applications. This is a production-focused software engineering role where you will spend approximately 90% of your time writing and owning code.
You will build backend services and control frameworks that directly operate and calibrate neutral atom quantum computers. Your responsibilities include:
- Write, own, and ship production backend services and control frameworks that operate and calibrate quantum computers. You will be responsible for fixing issues when they arise.
- Debug and support the entire control stack, from real-time embedded kernels to distributed services, without handing off difficult problems.
- Build reliable tooling that enables physicists and hardware engineers to run experiments independently by deeply understanding their needs.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes, and Python packages with C++ or Rust extensions in a Linux environment.
- Work hands-on with experimental data including time-series analysis, SQL and non-relational databases, and real-time image analysis and object detection from live quantum systems.
You will work directly alongside physicists and hardware engineers, translating complex scientific requirements into production software that controls real quantum machines.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent field where writing code to solve hard quantitative problems was standard
- Production-tested Python and hands-on C++ or Rust experience (all three is a strong advantage)
- Track record of rigorous engineering discipline: comprehensive testing, clean revision control, operational reliability, maintainable systems, thorough documentation, and code health as habit
- Real experience with scientific or experimental data pipelines (NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, time-series storage, ETL) ideally where data quality directly affected outcomes
- Science or mathematics background, or verifiable experience embedded with scientists translating research requirements into production software; ability to hold your own in physics conversations
- Familiarity with statistics, machine learning, or AMO (Atomic, Molecular, Optical) physics is a genuine differentiator; experience with real-time image analysis and object detection is highly valued
