Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, disrupts the $5B+ employment and income verification industry serving mortgage lenders, apartment rental platforms, and background check providers. The platform is used by 8 of the top 10 US mortgage lenders. Within Checkr, Truework operates as an independent unit—a startup within a startup—enabling rapid iteration while leveraging Checkr's core strengths.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Truework team, you will be an independent individual contributor responsible for developing and maintaining the platform serving major financial institutions. You'll take ownership across the full product development lifecycle: collaborating with product managers and customers to define features, implementing solutions, and partnering with sales and marketing on launches. Most work is backend-oriented, though the team welcomes full-stack, backend, QA, and SRE backgrounds.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solving complex problems and delivering high-quality solutions with minimal oversight and high ownership
- Bringing a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset to resolve ambiguities and ship impactful features
- Designing and architecting new features in partnership with engineering, product, and design
- Validating customer needs, gaining team buy-in, and shipping rapid MVPs with an experimentation mindset
- Delivering performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code at significant scale
- Monitoring, investigating, and resolving production issues for owned services
- Instrumenting experiments with a data-driven approach
You bring 5+ years of software development experience, proficiency in Python and JavaScript (or similar), experience developing RESTful APIs, strong communication and documentation skills, and a strong sense of ownership from design through production. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
