Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, operates as an independent startup within the larger organization, disrupting the $5B+ mortgage and income verification industry. The platform is used by 8 of the top 10 US mortgage lenders and provides employment and income verification for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and related use cases.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Truework team, you will be an independent individual contributor responsible for developing and maintaining the backend platform serving this scale. The role emphasizes ownership across the full product development lifecycle—from collaborating with product managers and customers to define features, through implementation, to working with sales and marketing on launches.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solving complex problems and delivering high-quality solutions with high autonomy and minimal oversight
- Bringing a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset to feature design and implementation
- Partnering with engineering, product, and design teams on architecture and feature design
- Adopting an experimentation mindset to validate customer needs and ship rapid MVPs
- Maintaining quality, performance, reliability, scalability, and security standards
- Monitoring, investigating, and resolving production issues for owned services
- Instrumenting and deploying product experiments with data-driven approaches
Most work is backend-oriented, though the team is open to full-stack, backend, QA, and SRE backgrounds if requirements are met. You will have significant autonomy and are expected to demonstrate high agency and craftsmanship.
Required qualifications: 5+ years software development experience, Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), proficiency in Python and JavaScript (or similar languages/frameworks), RESTful API development experience, strong communication and documentation skills, sense of ownership from design through production, willingness to collaborate with external stakeholders, and eagerness to learn and innovate.
