Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, disrupts the $5B+ mortgage and income verification industry with modern technology. The platform is used by 8 of the top 10 US mortgage lenders and provides employment and income information for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and similar use cases. Within Checkr, Truework operates as an independent unit—a startup within a startup—enabling rapid iteration while leveraging Checkr's core strengths.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Truework team, you will be an independent individual contributor responsible for developing and maintaining the platform serving major mortgage lenders. You'll take ownership across the full product development lifecycle: collaborating with product managers and customers to define features, implementing solutions, and working with sales and marketing on launches. Most work is backend-oriented, though the team welcomes full-stack, backend, QA, and SRE engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Solving complex problems and delivering high-quality solutions with minimal oversight and high ownership
- Bringing a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset to feature design and implementation
- Partnering with engineering, product, and design teams on architecture and feature design
- Adopting an experimentation mindset to validate customer needs and ship rapid MVPs
- Maintaining quality as a critical pillar of software deliverables
- Taking a data-driven approach to product experiments
- Delivering performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code at Truework's scale
- Monitoring, investigating, and resolving production issues for owned services
You bring 5+ years of software development experience, proficiency in Python and JavaScript (or similar languages), experience developing RESTful APIs, strong communication and documentation skills, and a demonstrated sense of ownership from design through production. You're collaborative, eager to learn, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
