Voxel51 is building FiftyOne, a mission-critical platform for managing unstructured data, model development, and AI systems at the world's largest companies. The platform powers AI work across verticals including autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, and agriculture. The company is built on open-source principles—their open-source version has 4 million downloads—while also delivering enterprise-grade solutions deployed into customer cloud and on-premises environments. As a Senior Software Engineer (Python), you will collaborate with a distributed team delivering features across the full machine learning lifecycle: dataset curation, model analysis, and integrations. You'll develop and maintain both the open-source SDK and enterprise APIs, UIs, and backend systems. Your work will focus on building clean, scalable APIs and solving unique challenges around unstructured data (images and video). You'll contribute to a thriving open-source community while emphasizing production-grade engineering for commercial products. Key responsibilities include developing maintainable, flexible, performant, and well-tested production code; scaling the enterprise solution to support the largest vision AI datasets (petabytes of data) for customers ranging from individual researchers to Fortune 500 companies; and contributing to the engineering department through tooling, automation, and best practices. You should bring 8+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience developing maintainable and scalable systems and architectures. A BS or MS in computer science or related field is required. You must have deep expertise in Python and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DocumentDB, Elasticsearch). Experience maintaining or contributing to open-source projects is expected, or demonstrated passion to start. Typescript experience is a plus. The role is fully remote for US-based candidates, with an expectation to attend at least 2 in-person retreats per year. The company emphasizes a human-first, distributed culture with autonomy and flexibility.
